Although the stop in Mobile Bay was scheduled to be a short re-supply mission taking only two hours under the cover of darkness, once the crew realized they were spotted, they agreed to have breakfast at the Whalehouse under the stipulation of no discussions of the electric submarine at the breakfast table. Seemingly keeping the electric submarine project top secret is important to Elon Musk and the rest of the crew.

In the early hours of the morning, a submarine surfaced unexpectedly in the deep waters of Mobile Bay, located in the Witless Bay Marine Ecological Reserve just south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. At 12:42 am guests sitting in an outdoor hot tub overlooking the ocean at the Whale House Guest House Hotel in the town of Mobile noticed a black object surfacing from the water. Initially they thought it was a whale. “When I first saw it surface I thought it was a whale” said Whale House Guest House Hotel guest who chose to remain anonymous “You get used to seeing so many whales in the area, especially now as we enter into the spring Humpback migration.” said the guest.

“Seeing large whales surface becomes commonplace after you’re soaking in the hot tub for a while, but the sound of the submarine surfacing made me think it was something else. Because the moon was high in the sky I started to take a few pictures. It wasn’t clear to me what it was a submarine until they turned on their lights.”

With good moonlight, Whale House guests were able to obtain a few pictures of the submarine shortly after it surfaced. The crew took only 15 min to disembark onto zodiac style boats before the submarine submerged again, choosing to remain out of view.

Disembarking in Mobile Bay Beach

Whale House Guest House Resident Luke Penton described the event

“I could hear a racket upstairs on the whale watching deck. Usually, it’s quiet here at night, with nothing but stars and moon lighting up the bay. When I looked out my window I could see large navigational lights in the bay, the kind you would see during nighttime capelin fishing, but these lights were handy to the water and others could be seen just below the surface. And there was a fine crowd on Mobile Bay beach just past the wharf; with at least five zodiac boats shuttling people and supplies back and forth from the submarine and shore. It seemed like the sub was only above the water for fifteen minutes before going down back underwater after the crew disembarked.”

Although official agencies including the Canadain Boarder and Securities Agency were tight-lipped about the incident and provided no official comment, it turns out the surfacing of the submarine in Mobile Bay was a planned stop that was supposed to be low key and attract little attention.

The submarine, a research submarine conducting cold water testing and research in the Canadian Arctic is an electric submarine and a multi-national initiative supporting Tesla underwater electric propulsion technology. Because the technology is in the research phase, and because of worries the SEC will use this against Elon Musk, the testing was done in secret. Although both Elon Musk and Tesla representatives said they could not comment on any underwater testing, ever since the Easter Egg hack discovered in 2015 that lets you change the image of the on-screen Tesla Car into the James Bond submarine car from the James Bond Film “The Spy Who Loved Me“, Elon Musk followers have speculated on the potential of an underwater car being released in the future.

Although it is not clear what research is being conducted or even if this is a Tesla initiative or simply a project Elon Musk happens to be part of, the fact that an electric submarine with Elon Musk and an international team of scientists, engineers, and propulsion specialists has surfaced in Mobile Bay, Newfoundland, Canada cannot be ignored.

“I couldn’t believe a submarine has surfaced in Mobile Bay, and then as soon as I accepted that fact, I couldn’t believe it was an electric submarine with Elon Musk on board,” said Whale House Guesthouse director Jared Penton. “I’m a huge fan of Elon Musk, Tesla, Space X, and everything to do with electric cars and any form of transportation that isn’t reliant on fossil fuels. Elon Musk is a visionary and is currently in the process of revolutionizing the way we use and look at transportation. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be face to face with Elon Musk. I honestly didn’t know if I should focus my eyes on him or the spot where the electric submarine was just floating in.”

“It took a little bit of arm twisting at first, but when I told Elon how big of a fan I was of him and what he’s doing, and said we could have hot toutons, duck eggs, hashbrowns, fruit, and toast ready for him and the entire crew in 20 min, they agreed to come over for a scoff with us. I think they were also happy to get a real meal and stretch out after eating submarine food and being cooped up underwater for the last 72 hours,” said Jared Penton in an interview shortly after the submarine departed. When asked what they discussed at the breakfast table Jared replied

“I honestly couldn’t stop telling Elon what a big fan I am. We’ve been considering taking the guesthouse off-grid ever since we started two years ago, and we have a fund going now to raise money for an on-site electric car charger and free electric car parking for anyone driving an electric vehicle that’s planning to hike the east coast trail. Environmental stewardship is important to us, and we want to ensure we do our part in transitioning humanity from fossil fuels to sustainable renewable technology. Electric transport will play a pivotal role in this transition.”

Musk and the rest of the crew departed shortly before first light at 05:23 am. Due to morning fog typical in Mobile Bay at this time of year, and possibly one of the reasons the crew of the electric submarine chose to use Mobile Bay as their morning stop, the electric sub was hidden from view when it surfaced the second time, making it impossible to take photos. There is no word on what the next planned stop is for the electric submarine, how long the electric sub will be at sea, or what port Elon Musk and the electric submarine crew will be returning to.
